Title: Ambulatory Van Driver

Compensation: $10 Hour

Responsibilities: The Ambulatory Van Driver provides compassionate, professional and safety-minded non-emergency transportation for the elderly, disabled and temporarily injured individuals who can walk independently or with some mild assistance. The driver’s primary responsibility is operating cars and vans safely and effectively; to follow established company policies and procedures regarding the transportation of children, the elderly, frail and other client passengers with physical disabilities or handicaps requiring minimal assistance while walking and subsequent competency in the use of proper techniques and management of same on the part of the driver. As essential personnel, the Van Driver must be available to work some holidays and throughout all weather conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

While the list is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current job, Joy Ride Transport reserves the right to revise the functions and duties of the job or to require that additional of different tasks be performed when circumstances change (i.e., emergencies, changes in personnel, work load, rush jobs, or developments that cannot be anticipated).

Ensures vehicle safety prior to starting trip, inspects vehicle and performs pre-trip checks (tires, lights, lifts, doors, etc.), reports equipment malfunctions to proper personnel for needed assistance; Maintains assigned vehicle by cleaning interior, washing vehicle, recording fuel and related tasks; Regulates heating, cooling, and ventilation for passenger comfort.

Drives vans and related equipment to pickup and transport clients (seniors, disabled, low income, children, etc.) to rehabilitation, and social agencies, doctor’s offices, dentist’s offices, and civic and special events, and other locations; assists passengers needing help in boarding and departing the vehicle; assists disabled passengers into and out of vehicle; completes trip log; turns in lost articles.

Maintains timely and accurate phone contact with dispatcher; complies with all local traffic regulations while running scheduled route; follows safe driving and related procedures in operating manual.

Maintains general appearance, behavioral and physical standards necessary to carryout Joy Ride Transport’s basic mission in responsive and cost effective manner; maintains courteous and cordial passenger relations.

Maintains a favorable driving record with limited moving violations and/or accidents; no record of operating a vehicle under the influence (OWI). No record of revoked or suspended driver’s license in the last five years. No record of hit and run accidents.
